Lt Gen (Retired) Hamood uz Zaman Khan was commissioned in Army Air Defence on 11 September 1986. He is a Graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University, Islamabad and National Defence University, USA.

            He has been Staff Officer in an Infantry Brigade, Military Operation Directorate and Chief of Staff at HQ Army Air Defence Command.  He remained on faculty of Pakistan Military Academy, Command and Staff College, Quetta and National Defence University, Islamabad.  The officer has an honour to serve under United Nations as Military Observer in DR Congo. 

            The General has commanded a self-propelled Air Defence Regiment, Air Defence Brigade, Infantry Brigade, Air Defence Division and Headquarters Army Air Defence Command.  He remained as Director General Weapons & Equipment at General Headquarters.

            The officer has a unique honour of establishing and functioning National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), during COVID pandemic.

            In recognition of his excellent professional services, he has been conferred with the high award of Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

            He has been appointed as Secretary Ministry of Defence, Government of Pakistan with effect from 24 Aug 2022.
