Seventh Round of Pakistan-Japan Military to Military Talks was held in Ministry of Defence, Rawalpindi on Tuesday, the 16th August 2016. Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence led the Pakistan delegation while
Mr. Akira KONO, Director General for International Affairs, Bureau of Policy, Ministry of Defence headed Japanese side.
Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan welcomed the Japanese delegation and shared Pakistan’s perspective on matters of mutual interest for closer defence cooperation between Pakistan and Japan. In addition, Pakistan’s role in the region and its relations with neighbouring countries were also discussed, particularly the need for an enduring peace.
Mr. Akira KONO in his remarks conveyed the desire of Japan for moving ahead in the field of military cooperation. Both leaders also exchanged views on enhancing and diversifying military and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Japan. The two sides also agreed on institutionalization of cooperation through Memorandum on defence exchanges and cooperation. Japanese leader shared views on Japan’s security policy in its region.
During the talks, both sides discussed the issues of mutual interest, including respective regional security and counter terrorism.
Talks were held in a cordial atmosphere. The delegation leaders reaffirmed the desire of the two sides to work together for enhancing and diversifying co-operation in defence collaboration.
